I. Original Characteristics of the MD 90130

"offset songle-seater" (4,5 L - 38 as marked blueprints

90130

unreadable (45003 originally)

These two offset single-seaters are almost identical to each other, but can by no means be confused with any other brand due to their very particular make.

Initially, during the official introduction and the first tryouts, an unesthetical hump altered the hood's shape, which was redesigned before the first race at Pau, France.

At that point, the MD 90130 could only be identified by its straps on the rear end of the hood: on the right, they didn't quite reach the exhaust pipe well, and the ones on the left side almost extended to the shorter air vents.

II. Chronology of improvements made on the MD 90130

April 2nd, 1939. Grand Prix at Pau, France

The hump on the hood, to make room for the carburetors, was almost completely removed.

Improvement of the cockpit's ventilation is made possible by an additional air intake slot on both sides of the car, rearward of the hood's buckles.

May 7th 1939, Paris Cup

The upper part of the fuel tank - also used as headrest - is lowered.

May 21st, 1939, Eifelrennen

Aero-sideview mirror added on the right side.

August 6th, 1939. Grand Prix at Comminges

Adjunction of the following equipment in order to conform to the event's requirements: doors, fenders and headlights. A spare tire being mandatory, it was placed on the left-hand flank as the exhaust manifold was on the right.

May 1941. Indianapolis 500

Removal of the above mentioned equipment as well as 1939's right-side rearview mirror.

A steel fuel tank replaces the former aluminum one.

1946 to 1947

A damper is outfitted on the transmission allowing up to 5500 rpm.

April 18th, 1949. Grand Prix at Pau

Owned by the American Harry Schell, the car is painted blue and white, thus meeting the new requirement: the car colors need to reflect the contenders' nationality.

Grand Prix at Pau, 1949

August 7th, 1949. Grand Prix of the ACF

For this race, as the MD 90130 is outfitted with Sommer's T26C's (# 110009) double crankshaft motor (# 45112), the following modifications take place:

- A slot in the hood is cut out to make room for the "bazooka", held by two leather straps.

- An exhaust pipe well is added on the left

Exceptionally, the Grand Prix took place as Sport formula event. The MD 90130 is thus re-equipped with the mandatory doors, fenders, headlights and spare tire.

Grand Prix du Salon, 1949

September 18th, 1939, Sarrebruck Race

The original single crankshaft engine and the spare tire are reinstalled. The slot in the hood, previously made for the T26C motor, is sealed.

May 28th, 1950. Grand Prix at Interlagos

The MD 90130's Sport division formula equipment is removed. Newly acquired by "Raph" it is repainted in its original solid blue color.
