Specifications of the MD 90130 model
General Layout In order to enhance the car's handling, its center of gravity needed to be lowered and thus the driver's seat was shifted to the right, next to the transmission located above the engine's central axis. | |||||
Talbot's "offset single-seater" MD 90130 |
This peculiar "offset" layout - called "monoplace decalée" in French, thus giving it the initials "MD" - was only made possible by shifting the entire engine/transmission entity 50mm to the left of the frame. |
Châssis For the offset single-seaters, the chassis frame measures 850 mm, 530 mm in the anterior section and 600 mm at the rear.
Transmission Preselective gearbox comprising four speeds and a reverse. A "Wilson box" replaces the clutch.
Suspension An independent suspension system was designed for the front, while the rear retained the rigid axle. One main concern was to improve the car's aerodynamics and to this effect the front shock absorbers were removed and the upper protruding parts smoothed. |
